The 2007 RL group rounded off a positive season by bringing home Inter Connecticut’s second-ever (and second-of-the-day) State Cup championship at FSA on Sunday.
The boys started the game aggressively, and quickly established their dominance over a CT Rush team who had beaten them earlier in the season.
An early wonder goal from winger Sam Rossoni was followed up by a tidy finish from Amit Solomon, giving the 07 RL team a 2-0 lead before Rush had been able to threaten at the other end. CT Rush were able to pull one back and then had a short spell of control in the game, before Rossoni scored his second to give Inter a 3-1 lead at half time.
The momentum continued in Inter’s favor after the break, and Rossoni was able to wrap up his hat-trick to further extend the lead. With the score at 4-1, the Rush goalkeeper was sent off for a deliberate handball outside the box as he tried to stop Javi Minuesa adding to the score. Minuesa himself scored from the resulting free kick to take the scoreline to 5-1, which is how the game ended after a period of good possession and game management saw the 07 RL boys over the line safely.
Congratulations to the 2007 RL team on a great performance and deserved victory, and good luck at Regionals!
